For the first time ever, Notes Migrator for SharePoint 5.0 will come in multiple flavors. To be honest, we just couldn't come up with a one-size-fits-all pricing model. We got the feedback from our customers and partners that many wanted to use our awesome new discovery and analysis features well before they used our provisioning and content migration features. Also for smaller projects (or companies that had already done a lot of analysis and planning) we knew that some would want to stick with our "classic" migration features and not bother with the new project management and automation features.
So for this release we are introducing multiple editions:
- Discovery Edition is a (very) low cost version that makes it easy for an organization to discovery and analyze what they have. It will scan your global Notes environment, help you classify and organize all your Notes databases, analyze usage patterns, analyze data complexity, analyze design complexity, and of course give you various ways to view and report on all that.
- Standard Edition includes everything in the Discovery Edition plus all the Notes, QuickPlace and Domino.Doc content migration features our 4.x users know and love today. The big new thing here is that in addition to our "classic" Designer Client (which is great at allowing you to design or run one migration job from one Notes database to one SharePoint list or library) we have added a new Migration Console that allows you to plan and/or run many jobs for one database or many jobs for many databases.
- Premier Edition includes everything in the Standard Edition plus a number of brand new project management features as well as SharePoint site/sub-site provisioning. Now you can plan (and estimate) your migration project with the same tool you used to discover your databases and will ultimately migrate them. Yon can also use our site provisioning features to automate the creation of may web sites based on what you have in Notes. (A common example of this is to take a QuickPlace that has hundreds of rooms and sub-rooms and automatically create a similar "tree" of sites and sub-sites in SharePoint.)
As shown in the table below, the Standard Edition and Premier Edition both include a set of "starter" source database licenses and, of course, you can add more if needed.
In a nutshell, we tried hard to create three packages that cover the needs of analysis-only projects, small migration projects, and large migration projects. Hopefully, we have correctly assessed the needs of our customers here. Your comments are welcome as always.
